Dr. Charlotte Maene graduated with distinction as a ‘Doctor of Medicine’ on June 28, 2018, from the Catholic University of Leuven. She then pursued her specialization in obstetrics and gynaecology at the same university from 2018 to 2023. During her training, she worked at University Hospital Leuven, AZ Sint-Lucas in Bruges, and AZ Damiaan in Ostend. As a resident, she began practicing robotic surgery in gynaecology with Dr. Stefaan Bafort in September 2019.
Obstetrics and gynaecology are highly diverse and comprehensive fields. In addition to her natural interest in pre-conception consultations, ultrasounds, and childbirth, Dr. Maene demonstrates a particular interest in surgery. Therefore, she pursues various supplementary training and educational programs, both in Belgium and abroad. She has undergone training at IRCAD in Strasbourg and annually attends the Endometriosis Conference in Dubai. Moreover, she is a member of the American Association of Gynaecologic Laparoscopists. She has also visited several robotic surgeons in Sweden, Germany, and England to observe surgical procedures and recently addressed an international audience at the EBCOG conference in Poland.
In September 2019, Dr. Maene and Dr. Bafort initiated robotic surgery within the obstetrics and gynaecology department. They furthered their expertise by performing robotic operations for uterine fibroid removal, pelvic muscle repair, surgical treatment of endometrial cancer, and endometriosis.
